Die machen mich noch irre!

Wer mag schon die ‚irregular verbs‘ (unregelmäßigen Verben) im Englischen. Eine Logik ist selten zu erkennen: Manche reimen sich (sing, swim), andere haben ein ähnliches Lautmuster (catch, teach), wiederum andere verändern sich überhaupt nicht (put, cut).
Sie müssen einfach auswendig gelernt werden. Und hat man eins endlich im Kopf, braucht man bestimmt gerade ein anderes für diese Klassenarbeit oder Klausur. Hilfe!

Hilfe gibt es: Wer die unregelmäßigen Verben auffrischen will, kann entweder

  • alphabetisch vorgehen (sehr, sehr mühsam) oder
  • der Reihenfolge ihrer Häufigkeit im tatsächlich gesprochenen Englisch nach lernen (prima Idee!).
  • Prof. Dr. D. Mindt (Freie Universität Berlin) hat bei seinen computerbasierten Untersuchungen festgestellt, dass man bereits nach dem zwölften (!) erlernten unregelmäßigen Verb ca. die Hälfte des Auftretens dieser Verben abgedeckt hat.

    Seine Liste *) der unregelmäßigen Verben hat er u.a. auch auf seiner Homepage veröffentlicht: Freie Universität Berlin, Fachbereich Didaktik der englischen Sprache und Literatur.
